“In 10 sessions you will feel the difference….
In 20 sessions you will see the difference….
In 30 sessions you will have a whole new body …”
                                                               (Joseph H. Pilates, The founder)

In the 1920s, after becoming an accomplished skier, diver, gymnast, and boxer, Joseph H. Pilates, who had a lifelong interest in body conditioning, opened his first Pilates studio in NY. Several years earlier, while living in England during World War I, he designed exercise apparatus for immobilized patients by attaching springs to hospital beds. This formed the foundation for his style of body conditioning. Currently, the Pilates Method is used internationally by individuals at all levels of fitness, as well as by dance companies, Broadway shows, sports teams, and more.
The method consists of a series of controlled movements engaging body and mind and focusing on improving muscle control, strength, coordination, flexibility and tone. Performed on a mat or on the special Pilates equipment, it promotes balance and harmony in the body for people of all ages. Joseph H. Pilates designed more than 500 different exercises designed to develop the body uniformly. Rather than repeating each exercise over and over, they are repeated only a few times using awareness of the body and mind, and using precise movements that require proper control and form. With this method, the mind works together with the body to perform the movements correctly. By focusing on the present moment alone, you experience a new awareness of muscle function and control. The "powerhouse" - abdomen, lower back, and buttocks - is supported and strengthened, enabling the rest of the body to move freely.
Recognizing the great power of breathing, each exercise has its own breathing pattern, which is used to release tension in the body and to assist in directing the energy to the right areas for each exercise. The method focuses on lengthening the muscles and keeping them in their natural form without creating any bulk, working on deeper muscle groups, concentrating on alignment, and creating a balanced whole body. In addition to the difference you will see and feel in your body, you will create a healthy self-image through the attainment of better posture, improved flexibility and proper coordination.
Many other fitness programs that have been developed over the last few decades promote a harmful and mistaken perception of the perfect or ideal body. In contrast, here you will find a gentle and practical way to help you change your body and improve your posture and alignment through natural evolution, rather than a forced method which creates damage to the body, alignment problems and a faulty perception of posture and holding the body.
Imagine an exercise program that you love to do and look forward to. Imagine an exercise program that tones your muscles, a program where you see results fast. Imagine an exercise program that really helps you to prevent injuries or to recover from them. Imagine a program that leaves you refreshed, alert and energized with a feeling of physical and mental well-being. The Pilates Method of body conditioning will do all this...and more. The results are proven.
